Wi-Fi QR code generator

Guests point their phone camera at the code and join your Wi-Fi, with no typing. Put it on a table card, the fridge or the front desk.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or open on this page is uploaded; it works with your connection switched off once the page has loaded.

Colours and options

How to use it

  1. Type the network name exactly as it appears in your phone's Wi-Fi list, capitals and spaces included.
  2. Type the password and pick the security type; most home and office networks are WPA/WPA2.
  3. Scan the preview with a phone that is not yet on the network, and check it offers to join.
  4. Download the PNG to print, or the SVG for a sign or a menu.

Need this in bulk, or from code?

The same job is one HTTP call to our API: GET /v1/qr/wifi. 100 calls a day free with no key; paid plans from $9 a month. One key works for every API.

Questions

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is made by JavaScript in this page, in your browser. The network name and password are never uploaded, to us or anyone else. You can load the page, switch off your connection, and it still works.

Which phones can scan it?

iPhones and most Android phones join straight from the camera app; on some Android phones the scanner is the QR button in the Wi-Fi settings instead. The code uses the common WIFI: format those scanners read.

Which security type do I pick?

WPA/WPA2 for almost every network made in the last fifteen years. WEP only for very old routers. “No password” for an open network.

What if I change my Wi-Fi password?

The code holds the password itself, so it stops working. Make a new code with the new password and replace the printed one.

What does “Hidden network” do?

Tick it only if your router does not broadcast the network name. It tells the phone to look for the network even though it is not in the list.

Is it safe to print my password as a code?

Anyone who can see the code can join the network, exactly as if the password were written on the card. For customers, use a separate guest network.
